Fairmont San Francisco - A historic Nob Hill landmark with panoramic city views, legendary dining venues, and grand event spaces

Perched atop Nob Hill, this 606-room San Francisco hotel features 62 luxury suites, including 10 balcony suites with panoramic city and bay vistas. The culinary offerings span from traditional afternoon tea service at Laurel Court Restaurant to tropical cocktails at the iconic Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar, renowned for its thunderstorm shows and floating band stage. A 500000-bee rooftop garden supplies honey for the restaurant's seasonal menus and signature cocktails. Nine separate event spaces, including historic ballrooms and salons, accommodate functions from intimate meetings to grand galas. Standing at the intersection of all cable car lines, the property provides direct access to Chinatown (0.5 miles), Grace Cathedral (0.3 miles), and Fisherman's Wharf (1 mile). The Fairmont's 14-foot vaulted ceilings and marble bathrooms showcase the property's architectural heritage dating back to 1907.

Pros

Home to one of the city's largest rooftop culinary gardens with nine beehives producing house-made honey

Located at the only spot where all San Francisco cable car lines intersect

Houses the legendary Tonga Room, featuring live music on a floating stage and scheduled indoor rain shows

State-of-the-art meeting facilities spanning multiple historic ballrooms and salons

Cons

Nob Hill's steep inclines make walking to nearby attractions challenging

The bustling tourist area can experience significant crowds during peak seasons

“Fairmont San Francisco impresses with its prime Nob Hill location and historic grandeur, though its size can feel overwhelming. I appreciate its proximity to key attractions and commitment to sustainability, including the on-site honeybee tours. In my opinion, this hotel is a solid choice for those seeking a landmark experience in the city.”

The room included a safe for valuables and an iron with an ironing board (i found it very useful!). I appreciated the complimentary water bottles available on the first floor. My room offered a great view of the bay AND Alcatraz!
The minibar wasn't restocked daily, i had to ask to restock it.
