Location: Scalby Village

The Plough Inn & Cottages is in Scalby, near Scarborough, on the North Yorkshire coast. It is the perfect gateway to the North York Moors National Park. It is 5 km from Scarborough and 100 km from Durham Tees Valley. The church of St Laurence's is the oldest recorded building in the village dating back to 1150. The older part of the village is focused around a small but busy High Street, Scalby. It's aptly named the 'dinosaur coast' for the discovery of dinosaur footprints and fossils there. Landmarks nearby include Peasholm Park (3 km), Coast Gallery (3 km), Scarborough Castle (4 km), and Scarborough Open Air Theatre (2 km).

Services and Information

Manager Mark Deeming and assistant Rachel Dunnington run The Plough. The reception provides tips on the area. Room 6 can be a twin on request. The Plough is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. The cold spread includes cream-like Ann Forshaw yogurts, muesli, and berries. Kayaking, windsurfing, and sailing offer chances to get out on the surrounding water. All the bedrooms in The Plough have been fitted with a NuAire cooling system.

“Nestled just outside Scarborough in the charming village of Scalby, this property struck me as a delightful blend of country inn warmth and gastronomic ambition; the AA Rosette recognition, earned three years running, speaks to their culinary commitment. The option of luxurious en-suite rooms or pet-friendly self-catering cottages makes it a particularly versatile choice, appealing to both couples seeking a romantic escape and families eager to explore the nearby North York Moors. It's a place where thoughtful details meet Yorkshire hospitality, in my opinion.”

the restaurant meal was quite nice. the staff was friendly (i appreciated their help). the included coffee maker worked well and came with fresh milk in the fridge.
the tv remotes did not work properly. the room was cold when i got there and it was difficult to warm it up. i also needed to ask for teabags and milk, which i felt should have been in the room already.
