Historic Boone Tavern - A Colonial Revival landmark with student-crafted furnishings and regional Kentucky dining
Built at a prominent location on College Square where the old Dixie Highway intersects the campus, this 4-star Berea hotel features handcrafted furniture and mosaic art mirrors made by Berea College Woodcraft Industries. The on-site Boone Tavern Dining Room serves southern cuisine sourced from Berea College Farm, including the legendary cornbread soufflé known as Boone Tavern Spoonbread. Guest rooms showcase rich wood furniture, woven bedding, crown molding, and high ceilings, equipped with modern amenities like Keurig coffee makers and high-thread-count linens. Historic Boone Tavern stands just a block from the 1855-founded college, surrounded by a parade of shops including a jewelers, bookstore, art gallery, and fudge factory. Notable past guests of Boone Tavern include the Dalai Lama, Henry Ford, President Calvin Coolidge, Eleanor Roosevelt, Maya Angelou, and Robert Frost. The property is situated 49.5 miles from Blue Grass airport.
Pros
Student-crafted furnishings reflect authentic Appalachian artistry
Complimentary parking with electric vehicle charging stations
Complimentary bicycles available for guest use
Kentucky Proud ingredients sourced from the 500-acre college farm
Cons
49.5 miles distance from nearest major airport
Limited entertainment options in immediate vicinity
“Historic Boone Tavern, set in the heart of Berea, immediately strikes me as a place of genuine warmth and character. The hotel's commitment to sustainability, reflected in its LEED Gold certification and farm-to-table dining, enhances the experience, and I particularly appreciate the connection to local artisans and the college. In my opinion, it's a spot that uniquely blends historical charm with modern, eco-conscious hospitality.”
