Reykjavik's Heart
Hotel Reykjavík Centrum is situated in downtown Reykjavík, near The Reykjavik 871 +/-2 Settlement Museum (remains of a Viking-age longhouse), the harbor area, the main shopping street, and the parliament building. It is 5 km from Reykjavik. The hotel features a corrugated-iron facade and cutesy-historic interiors, in tune with historically reconstructed buildings. Guests are near attractions and have opportunities for water adventures like boat tours.
Rooms
The hotel offers 89 rooms, including four apartments with fully equipped kitchenettes and separate living/sleeping areas. Selected guestrooms offer internet access - wireless, non smoking rooms, heating, desk, mini bar. There is decent wardrobe space and furnishings, as well as basic tea and coffee facilities. Some suites feature a sleeping loft, living room, balcony, and small fridge. Specially adapted rooms are equipped with bigger entrances in the shower and grab bars on both sides of the toilet, with more space for wheelchair accessibility.
Dining Options
Fjalakötturinn, next door, serves modern but locally inspired cuisine with seafood and updated traditional dishes like lamb with baked rutabaga and grilled langoustine with ceviche. Uppsalir Bar & Café offers local beer and a wide selection of wine. Guests enjoy cocktails at the bar. Breakfast is a continental buffet with hot and cold options, including Icelandic yogurt, cereals, breads, toppings, cold juices, eggs, bacon, sausages, and waffles. Kids between three and 12 also get 50 per cent also off breakfast.
Leisure & Entertainment
Uppsalir is a bistro featuring a bar/lounge. Guests simply enjoy a fabulous cocktail at the bar. There is a gym available. Explore the area for water adventures such as boat tours. The Northern Lights can be seen between September and April, with tours arranged from the city. The Golden Circle route, featuring Þingvellir National Park, Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss waterfall, is within a two-hour drive. Whale-watching tours depart from the old harbor.
Services
The hotel includes elevator, free Wifi, and a 24-hour front desk. There is luggage storage, cribs and extra beds, and tour/ticket service. Daily housekeeping is on request. The reception is manned by a friendly and helpful team of staff. Green Key certified. Dogs are allowed (in restricted areas). Meeting rooms are available. The hotel provides a carbon monoxide detector, a fire extinguisher, a smoke detector, a security system, a first aid kit, and window guards.
“Hotel Reykjavik Centrum stands out for its prime spot in the city's oldest quarter, Aðalstræti, infusing modern comforts with a deep sense of Icelandic history. The helpfulness of the staff is a real asset, alongside the unique Viking exhibition within the hotel. It's a well-situated base for exploring Reykjavik's core attractions and cultural experiences.”
