Services Offered

The Royal Oak provides room service, but service is not exclusive like in a hotel. Log files are used. Guests have access to free parking and free Wi-Fi in rooms. The restaurant is fully air-conditioned with views across Swanage Bay. The inn adds protection for children.

Dorset and Surroundings

Dorset is a place visited by people from around the world, offering a lovely coast and natural beauty. Visitors will get outstanding panoramic sea and coast views from different locations. If visitors are looking for an inn by the seaside or riverside, or a relaxed place to eat, they will find many pubs in Dorset.

“From what I gathered, this pub stay seems to have a real community heart, offering a genuine slice of local life alongside its rooms; I imagine the sounds of laughter from the bar drift upstairs, a backdrop to your stay. It is a place where you might easily find yourself chatting with locals over a pint, before heading out to explore the nearby beach, if you are lucky. A practical choice for those seeking a down-to-earth base.”

pleasant stay near the sea

spacious room double bed nice decor
The room was spacious, with a lot of space in the living room area. The two bedrooms were a very good size, and each had good size double beds. The decor was nice, and the whole place was clean. Parking round the back of the pub was easy.
The noise from the bakery next door at 5.30 am did wake me. The constant noise of trays and palettes was rather loud. I was not able to get back to sleep.
Location
9/10
The hotel is conveniently located near shops and restaurants. The beach is a comfortable 10-15 minute walk away. A bus stop right outside offers easy transport.

the member of staff was very cute. he told us if we needed anything to let him know. we liked the room and how it accommodated us as a family of 5.
Doors stick, needing a good shove. This made a lot of noise on entry. the shower door wasn't ideal when returning late at night.

Charming Stay

helpful staff easy access safe parking
The staff were helpful. The location has easy access to town. Parking at back was very safe. This was very important to me. The locals are friendly and always ready for a chat.
The bathroom needed a little more attention to detail with dusting.
Rooms

Our junior suite accommodated my whole family with room to spare. The suite had a double bed, two single beds, and a sofa bed. This arrangement worked well. There were thoughtful touches such as shower gels, teas, coffees, and milk.

Spacious Accommodation Near the Beach

separate living room convenient location tea facilities
I appreciated the separate living room in our family room as it had a double sofa bed, TV, fridge and tea facilities. I also found the two showers and separate toilet very convenient. The location was convenient, with a Tesco Express, bakery, and fish and chip shop nearby.
I noticed that the umbrella's were not put down and they made noise outside our room in the wind.
Facilities
9/10
The hotel had free parking behind the building which was very convenient. I noted the availability of a side gate, offering separate access to the accommodation block. This arrangement provided added convenience for coming and going.
Location
8/10
A bus stop was located just outside, providing easy access to various destinations. I found the walk to the beach manageable at only 15 minutes. A variety of shops and restaurants were also conveniently nearby.
Dining
10/10
Though the pub didn't serve food, I was allowed to bring in fish and chips from Bennetts next door. I also noted that a bakery next door offered convenient options for breakfast baps. This flexibility added to the overall dining experience.
Rooms
9/10
Our family room featured a large bedroom and a separate living room, accommodating everyone comfortably. I appreciated the inclusion of a mini fridge, kettle, teas and coffees in the room. The beds were very comfortable and I slept soundly.

large bedroom separate living room dated room unpleasant smell
The family room offered ample space for everyone! We had a large bedroom and a separate living room, this was quite handy. I noticed two showers were available and a separate toilet too.
The room felt a bit dated, I think some updates would improve the experience. There WAS a slight issue with the toilet, it seemed to have a hole in the wall that let in an unpleasant smell.
