Check-in was friendly and i received a drink upon arrival. It was acceptable.
the wellness area's hot tub was cold, quite disappointing (i mean, who wants a cold hot tub?). the portion sizes in the michelin-rated restaurant were ridiculously tiny, so i left still hungry after a very expensive meal. also, a staff member (glasses) apparently assaulted my friend by ripping a sign out of their hands and throwing it on the floor when they asked for a taxi.

decent showercramped tables
The building and surroundings were actually pretty decent. The room and shower in the modern side was quite alright.
I expected more from a supposedly five-star hotel. I had to struggle with the sloping path to our room instead of using four flights of stairs. Dinner was a stressful ordeal, with tables so cramped I was juggling plates and glasses.

the staff upgraded our room free of charge, a good surprise after a difficult journey. the meals were amazing. i loved the attention to detail and the overall quality of service i experienced.
during my stay, i noticed the television and wifi reception in my room was unreliable. this inconvenience affected my ability to relax and stay connected. i hope they improve the signal quality.

the mayflower restaurant offered delicious food and great service. luke provided spot on service and was lovely. we were lucky enough to have sunshine, so we enjoyed chicken with mediterranean veg in the spatisserie, served by abby, who was helpful.

i stayed in the lady jane suite, a fine room in the older part of the building. i especially loved sitting in the window seat each morning with my coffee admiring the view. the room was comfortable and well-equipped.

the hotel is close to dartmoor, an advantage for exploring the area. the outdoor spa garden provided a small piece of heaven. the hotel looked beautiful as soon as i drove up. the setting was wonderful and relaxing.
