Rooms at The Old Ship
The Old Ship Hotel is an historic Grade II listed building. Each of the spacious bedrooms has its own unique character. There is a choice of single, twin, double and family rooms. Two rooms include four poster beds and some have views over Padstow's famous estuary. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms, hot drinks facilities, Freeview and secure safes. Rooms include ironing facilities, heating, tea and coffee facilities, a sitting area, rollaway beds, a bathtub, free toiletries, an electric kettle, an AM/FM alarm clock, a flat-screen TV, and carpeted floors.
Dining at The Old Ship
Guests can indulge in a full English breakfast, or croissants, pastries and fruit, accompanied by coffee, tea and soft drinks. Guests are served breakfast in a private dining room, choosing from a wide selection that includes full English breakfast, cereals, fresh fruit, smoked fish and vegetarian options. The menu showcases modern British cuisine. The Wardroom has lamps and feature-wallpaper. The menu offers classic hearty dishes alongside lighter healthy options, providing choices for every taste. Children are welcome and have their own menu. Examples from the menu include: Porthilly Mussels served in curry sauce with focaccia (£8), or as a main with fries (£15); Grilled Cornish Sardines with Gremolata (£9), or as a main with fries (£18); Local Cod Fillet with crushed new potatoes, Porthilly mussels & king prawns in herb white wine sauce, and seasonal vegetables (£20); Local Seabass Fillet & Seared Scallops with garlic stir fried pak choi, and baby new potatoes (£22). The fresh fish landed at Padstow is among the best in the world and the menu at The Old Ship has plenty of local seafood. The specials board features seasonal, Cornish produce, from crab, lobster and Dover sole, to fresh vegetables and meat from local farms.
Things to do
Padstow is a great base for surfers and other outdoor enthusiasts. There are many beaches within walking distance or a short drive away. The hotel is positioned at the start of the Camel Trail. Coasteering is available to see the beauty and magic of the North Cornish coast. Kayaking around the Cornish coast is a highlight of many holidays. A kelp forest provides shelter for many species including fish and crustaceans such as the crawfish and European spider crab. Moule Island, off the Rumps, is home to the largest nesting colony of puffins in Cornwall.
Location & Transport
The Old Ship Hotel is centrally located in Padstow, close to beaches and the Camel Estuary. Newquay Airport is 6 miles away and has daily links with regional airports around the UK, including London, Leeds/Bradford, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Teeside and Dublin. By road, take the M5 or A303 to Exeter, then the A30 westbound for approximately 65 miles. Follow the signs for Padstow and the A389 into the town. Services from London and other main line stations to Bodmin Parkway are fast and frequent. From Bodmin, take a taxi to The Old Ship Hotel.
Hotel Services
Car parking is included in the tariff of your accommodation. The hotel provides off-street parking for guests in a private car park behind the hotel. The hotel offers luggage assistance. Children are welcome. Every meal is cooked fresh, and any special requests or dietary requirements can often be catered for.
“The hotel occupies an iconic spot on Brighton's seafront, balancing historical charm with modern expectations; it seems especially suited to families, even those travelling with pets. I noted convenient on-site parking, a real advantage in this area, plus varied dining options featuring modern British cuisine. While some past-its-prime elements appear, the core experience remains inviting and practical.”
